West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village & Museum

Investigate life as an Anglo-Saxon through original objects and using the archaeological clues to find out about the First English at West Stow:
• See Anglo-Saxon life by watching a DVD introduction
• Explore experimental reconstructions of buildings
• Handle replica objects
• Study finds from the site in the Anglo-Saxon Museum
• Take part in lively group discussions led by staff about the Anglo-Saxons, encouraging groups to draw their own conclusions

A different session on the Anglo-Saxons can be delivered in school by one of our partners

How did the Anglo Saxons live during the Winter?


Book a schools session at West Stow Anglo Saxon Village during December and January and explore Anglo Saxon life in the Winter months. 

West Stow's new Winter Schools Session will include:
• An introductory DVD to West Stow Anglo Saxon Village
• First hand experience and exploration of an Anglo Saxon Village in the winter
• Seasonal activities to complete as you explore the Anglo Saxon Village
• An opportunity to do your own storytelling session in the Anglo-Saxon Hall with the warmth of a real fire
• Exploring finds within the Anglo Saxon Museum
• Other activities may be available depending on staff

There is indoor lunch space available. West Stow's Winter Schools Session is limited to up to 60 children per session.

Moyse's Hall Museum & Medieval Bury St Edmunds

Examine medieval life close up at Moyse's Hall Museum:
• Gain an insight into significant events including
       • The Barons prepar
ing for the Magna Carta signing
       • The development of the town around the great Abbey shrine of St Edmund
• Hear the story of Bury St Edmunds at a time when the Abbey town was of national and international importance
• Watch a DVD about early Moyse's Hall
• Handle replica objects
• Learn about Victorian life and times
• Take part in lively group discussions led by staff about the collections at Moyse's, encouraging groups to draw their own conclusions
Outreach sessions can be delivered in school by arrangement.
