Arts Council accreditation is good news for museum visitors

We’re delighted to announce that West Suffolk’s heritage sites, West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Moyse’s Hall Museum, have both achieved full accreditation from The Arts Council England – a kitemark that museums strive to achieve.

The award recognises excellence in museum management, collections care, professional practice and engagement with the public.

For visitors, accreditation brings exciting opportunities. As an accredited service, West Suffolk Council, which operates both sites, has priority access to funding opportunities for acquisitions, loans and gallery improvements. It also demonstrates to national institutions that our museums are trusted partners, helping us secure loans and develop partnerships that bring nationally and internationally significant art, heritage and culture to West Suffolk.

Damien Parker, Head of Service, Green Space and Heritage, said: “We’re delighted to have achieved full accreditation for West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Moyse’s Hall Museum. We continue to celebrate our local history and heritage while carefully caring for our collections so they can be enjoyed now and for generations to come.”

What’s on this summer?

At West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, the summer programme includes archery and archaeology courses, followed by various re-enactment events including the Wuffa Viking over the August bank holiday.

At Moyse’s Hall Museum, Edmund and the Great Heathen Army explores Edmund in life and death like never before. Developed through academic partnership, the exhibition takes visitors into Edmund’s 9th-century world before exploring the rise and fall of his cult.

The exhibition runs until Sunday 4 October 2026.
